Dr Douglas Kong is a Certified Executive and Life Coach specializing in helping individuals, teams and organizations to function optimally with peak performance in the workplace. He helps people by assisting them to overcome their personal performance barriers and by increasing their social and interpersonal functioning and communication skills. He is a retired psychiatrist whose past training and experience are focused on Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Developmental Psychiatry and Group Dynamics.

He qualified in medicine from the University of Singapore (now National University of Singapore) in 1974, and obtained his psychiatry specialist training in England and qualified as a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists(1981) and later elected to the Fellow(1999) of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, his main focus had been on the psychological and social aspects of psychiatric and medical conditions especially stress, traumatic stress and psychological treatment. As a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Psychological Medicine of the National University of Singapore, his research papers were in the areas of stress, psychological treatment and behavioural problems in children.

In private practice for 24 years, he specialized in stress and stress related disorders. His psychiatric group practice had a corporate arm, the Centre for Effective Living Pte Ltd, which offered a variety of services including stress management workshops, anger management workshops and critical incidents managements for organisations facing traumatic stress besides Organisational Development work such as Change Management.

Dr Kong’s interest in Neuroscience originated from the time when he was in clinical practice and an opinion leader presenting at conferences and various workshops on advances in clinical treatment in Psychiatry. He then implemented strategies based on what he had learned from Neuroscience with his clients. As an extension to this, he now applying the insights of Neuroscience in the fields of Neuroleadership and Neuromarketing.

These two fields are at the cutting edge of management science and marketing, and in focusing on these, he is using the same techniques he once used for helping people improve to helping individuals exceed their performance and for organisations to be effective entities.
